Cono Sur Pinot Noir 2009 - $9.99
(100% Pinot Noir; Central Valley, Chile) From the wineries Twitter feed: “Regarding the earthquake, fortunately our team and their families are in good health.” Cono Sur was the first Chilean winery to start making and exporting Pinot Noir and their Pinot vines are the oldest in the country. Here's what they say about their basic Pinot: “Dressed in fresh purple red colour, this is a voluptuous Pinot Noir with rich fruit notes of cherry, raspberry, plum and strawberry – a red fruit party! – enhanced by subtle smoked hints. In mouth sweet fruit notes stand out, and its fine tannins give it a great texture and a mouth filling structure. Balanced and New World styled, this is a wine of personality and elegance. Sexy, pure and simple, it’s a young and refreshing Pinot.”
Anton Bauer Pinot Noir Wagram 2006 - $14.99
(100% Pinot Noir; Donauland, Austria) Tony Bauer took over his fourth generation family winery in 1992, and since then has been producing a wide range of high quality, organic wines. His focus is on the traditional whites (Grüner Veltliner and Riesling) of the Donauland Region, but he has also proven that this area can produce excellent red wines, including Pinot Noir. The Wagram is a plateau north of the Danube, with south-facing, terraced vineyards. To get to Tony’s winery, you drive up a long street, called the Keller strasse, or cellar street. From the top of the hill, the vineyards of the Wagram stretch away towards the Danube, lush and green in the summer, cold and gray in the winter.
