Ayinger Brewery

The story of Ayinger Brewery is actually the hidden story of women. In 1876, Johann and Maria Liebhard opened up a butcher shop and tavern in Aying, in Bavaria, just southeast of Munich. Though Johann was in charge, Maria was able to manage home and business finances well enough that in the next year, they began construction on a brewery. With no sons, the brewery went to their daughter, Maria and husband August. But WWI snatched August away leaving Maria their three daughters to run the place. National economic collapses, Nazis, another world war, and no male heirs until the 1960s were not enough to shut the place down. Today, Ayinger Brewery produces some of Bavaria's most cherished beer. One writer called Ayinger beer a complete work of art.
