Robert's Notes
Friday Night Tasting March 23, 2012

Joel Gott Pinot Gris 2010 - $12.99

(100% Pinot Gris, Oregon)

Napa scion Joel Gott was born to make wine. His grandfather was winemaker and president of Inglenook in the 1960s and 1970s while his father, Cary Gott, is the founder of Montevina and continues to consult for wineries such as D.R. Stephens. In addition to Joel's uncanny blending ability, he has privileged access to many of the best and as yet undiscovered fruit sources in the Napa Valley and beyond.

Thorn Clarke Mount Crawford Riesling 2011 - $11.99

(100% Riesling; Eden Valley, Australia)

We love Riesling. Always have, always will. It is one of the most noble of all white wines, and one of the most versatile. This is a great everyday example. “This Riesling is a fine example of Mount Crawford climate, soil and aspect combining to display a varietal bouquet of spicy floral characters. With fresh, crisp citrus notes and a long finish on the palate, this wine can be enjoyed with a vast array of foods.” - Kysela Pere et Fils

Emperador Macabeo 2009 - $8.99

(100% Macabeo; Ribera del Guadian, Spain)

Ribera del Guadian, which encompasses six subregions, first became it’s own D.O. in 1999. It produces the grapes for this lively, crisp white. Emperador is full of bright acidity and citrus and tropical fruit flavours.

Vajra Langhe Rosso 2009 - $15.99

(Nebbiolo, Freisa, Barbera; Dolcetto, Piemonte, Italy)

The blend of this wine changes from vintage to vintage and it is produced as the most daily of the Vajra wines. Luckily even Vajra’s most simple wines are lovely and worthy of consideration. This wine has bright red fruits and food friendly acidity. It is a great choice on it’s own or as a “goes with almost anything” food wine.

Gormaz Ribera 2010 - $11.99

(110% Tempranillo; Castilla y León, Spain)

“Unoaked, from carefully chosen lots suitable for drinking young. Deep wild berry aromas and mouth-filling flavor and length are provided by the old Tempranillo vines. Tannins are ample but balanced by the textural richness and juicy fruit. An incredible value.” - Classical Wines Imports
