Fabrini Chardonnay 2011 – $8.99
(100% Chardonnay; Marche, Italy)
"Bright straw yellow. On the nose this wine has a delicate bouquet with strong fruity notes of banana, pineapple and citrus fruits. Nicely smooth and fresh on the palate, well poised good body, with fine mineral notes." - The importer
Obvio Malbec 2007 - $8.99 on sale for $6.96
(100% Malbec; Mendoza, Argentina)
“This carefully crafted Malbec from San Carlos, Valle de Uco encapsulates the vibrancy and soul of Argentinean life. Obvio´s Malbec excites the eye with its deep violet tones and tangoes on the palate with an array of red and black fruits. This is an easy drinking style of wine to be enjoyed on all occasions, and excellent when paired with meats, pasta and hard cheeses.” - Kysela Pere et Fils
Bricco dei Tati Barbera 2010 – $8.99
(Barbera; Langhe, Italy)
The Gaiarins, Emanuele of the Veneto region of Italy and Mary Beth of Washington, D.C., met at university in the US. They married, lived in Italy, returned to the US, had two sons, and founded one of our favorite importers, Siema Wines. Made at their new hillside ("bricco") vineyard in the Langhe region of the Piemonte, this is a young, fresh, lively Barbera with aromas of black cherries and a bit of spice on the palate. Delightfully approachable, it has bold fruit, a touch of tannin, good body, and a hard-to-believe price.
Château de Mattes-Sabran Le Clos Redon 2008 - $14.99
(100% Syrah; Corbières, France)
Château de Mattes-Sabran is a massive 615 hectare estate in the Sigean sub-region (as yet not legally defined) of Corbières, France's fourth largest appellation. Jean-Luc Brouillat and his wife continue the family tradition of tending vines on this estate, which has been in the family since 1733. A lovely dark colour, and a ripe, deep, plush presence of blackberries and pepper on the nose, which is very expressive. The palate maintains this vibrancy, with bright raspberry and blackberry fruit wrapped in a sumptuous, creamy texture, backed up by finegrained tannins in the background. - The importer
Domaine de Fontsainte 2007 – $14.99
(60% Carignane, 30% Grenache, 10% Syrah; Corbieres, France)
“If there was ever a perfect example of an inexpensive wine that can be enjoyed over several years, it would be the Corbières Rouge from Domaine de Fontsainte. I’ve had many customers come back and say, 'I just had my last bottle of Fontsainte’s 1995 and it was fabulous! Lotta bang for that buck.' That’s the truth. Fontsainte’s delicious blend of Carignan, Grenache, and Syrah always drinks well young and ages effortlessly and beautifully. The 2007 vintage stands out in the Languedoc, affording a great combination of approachable fruit and structure for aging. So it is an everyday wine that can also provide additional pleasure five, ten years down the road. Absolutely! A case to drink now and one for later?” - Importer Kermit Lynch
