In the old kingdom of Castilla northwest of Madrid lies the DO of Rueda covering 72 towns in the provinces of Valladolid, Segovia and Ávila. Here they make fresh, vivacious white wines based on the Verdejo grape, often with Viura and/or Sauvignon Blanc. Verdejo produces crisp, aromatic wines with compelling flavors. This one shows green apples and lime with a persistence of fruit on the palate that make it a real head turner. If you like New Zealand or Loire Valley Sauvignon Blancs, you owe it to yourself to try this.
