Ever read your weekly newsletter and then
a few weeks later said, "Now what was that thing
that they were talking about? That sounded good!"
Well, now you can check up and see which beers we have
featured in the past. Below is our archive of featured
beers, giving you a little more information about your
favorite brews or maybe introducing you to a favorite-to-be.
(Take care! This is an archive and will most likely
reflect what is on the shelf, but we cannot guarantee
it. Always check price and availability with either
the Uptown or Downtown stores.)

Victory
Whirlwind Witbier
Swirling
Dynamo of a Beer
The wineshop favorite is
back and in force. Victory Brewery's own take on the
Belgian "White Beer" is a refreshing, light,
yet flavorful taste. Victory brews it with imported
Belgian yeast to make it the crown jewel of our wide
selection from your favorite Pennsylvania brewery.
"... just may
be the most-enjoyable witbier I can remember drinking.
... a splendid balance of spice, hops, sugars and
alcohol that could just become this summer's session
beer around here." - Beer Philadelphia

Victory
Sunrise Weissbier
Sun
Bavarian Style
Though
Victory Brewery is located in Downingtown, Pennsylvania,
some 20 miles northwest of Philadelphia, their hearts
are much, much farther east. Having been trained in
Germany, it's no surprise that their beers tend to have
a European flavor to them. Their Sunrise Weissbier is
a Bavarian wheat beer that boasts all imported Bavarian
ingrediants save the water. It's a hefeweizen (meaning
an "unfiltered" wheat beer) with the crisp,
citrus taste one traditionally finds there. We've never
seen a Bavarian sunrise, but if they're anything like
this, they must be refreshing indeed.

All Malt Lager
At
Lager-heads
Here's
another offering from our friends whose house is in
Downingtown, Pennsylvania (some 20 miles northwest of
Philadelphia) but whose hearts are in Germany. Speaking
of Germany ... ("Turn on the Wayback Machine, Sherman")
... It's October 4, 1841 and you're a German brewer
happily brewing away your top-fermented, dark, cloudy
beer. Sure, there are some people experimenting in caves
with bottom-fermenting yeasts, but hey, no big whoop
for you; you sleep well. The next day, some Bavarian
brewer named Josef Groll, working for the Burgess Brewery
in Plzn, Bohemia, using new techniques and new, paler
malts, brews a clear, crisp, golden beer. The Plzn style
of lager (or Pilsner) is born! Not only is it born,
it's a hit! Not only is it a hit, but improved transportation
makes it a hit in Central Europe! Tough luck for you.
What will you do, Mr. German brewer if Germans start
drinking the new beer? Well, don't fret, because in
response, you and your buddies will create the Helles
Lager to compete.
Made in the German Helles Lager tradition, the Victory
All Malt Lager is a clear, rich, and refreshing alternative
to Pilsners and wheat beers in these hot summer months.
Come down a try it.

Oskar
Blues Dales Pale Ale
Cannily
the Best
Oskar Blues Restaurant and
Brew Pub in Lyons, CO insists that, while brown bottles
are the industry standard, cans are best for both the
beer lover and the beer. For travelling with you in
a cooler or on your back in pack, cans are more "beer
lover friendly" being that they are sturdier, lighter,
and easier to dispose of than glass. Cans also do a
better job keeping out light (making the beer "lightstruck")
and oxygen. They must be doing something right as The
New York Times recently chose Oskar Blues Dale's
Pale Ale as their best pale ale in the nation. Come
try a six pack from our stack or cold from the fridge.

Clipper
City (Heavy Seas) Red Sky at Night Saison Ale
Saison
Delight
Saison ale is a sturdy, Belgian
farmhouse ale. Traditionally it's brewed in the winter
to be imbibed in the summer months. Don't let its Belgian
origin fool you. The style is very different from the
extremely popular Belgian Abbey ales and was going out
of style before, fortunately, saison ales started
generating new interest.
We're currently featuring
Clipper City's Red Sky at Night Saison Ale. Part of
the Baltimore brewery's "Heavy Seas Line",
this fine, fine ale is brewed with a unique Belgian
yeast and supports a delightfully complex flavor. Clipper
City's Heavy Seas Line of seasonal beers is supposed
to represent "the highest expression of the brewer's
art." Tasting the Red Sky at Night really drives
home Clipper City's admonition that "It's Heavy
Seas that separate the men from the boys."

Hofbrau
Müchner Kindl Hefe Weizen
Kid
Weiss
German Weissbier ("Wheat
Beer") is made not just from malted barley but
from malted wheat as well. For hundreds of years wheat
was such an important staple crop that it could not
be used for brewing without duchal dispensation. Hofbrau
Brewery had that dispensation. So after centuries of
exclusively brewing weissbier for Bavaria, they have
an idea or two about how to do it well.
Located
o utside of Münich, Hofbrau
recipes follow the German Purity Law of 1906 and are
made to specifications set down in 1589. The Müchner
Kindl Hefe Weizen is one of its signature beers. Quench
your summer thirst with this deliciously yeasty weissbier.
(By the way, the Müchner Kindl or "Münich Child"
is the longtime symbol on Münich's coat of arms.)

Tröegs
Sunshine Pilsner
Sunshine
Hop Men
Rounding
out our duo of sun-themed, Pennsylvania beers is this
offering from Chris and John Trogner, the brothers behind
Tröegs Brewery just five hours away from here in
Harrisburg, PA. Chris, the brewer, finished his studies
in England, taking his lessons from there and mixing
them with American brewing techniques. What results
are European style beers with twists, like the Sunshine
Pilsner. This beer has the cool, crispness of a European
pilsner with an added kick of hops added in. A sunshine
golden color puts the final touch on a beer that challenges
anyone who dismisses pilsners. Try this seasonal beer
while you can. Once our current stock runs out ... it's
gone.

Hopback Amber
"Hop
Back! Make Me Kiss Myself"
- James Brown (sorta')
The
hopback is a device in the brewhouse used to "hop"
the beer. " As the wort is being transferred
from the brewhouse to fermentation it passes through
the hopback vessel. Packed full of fresh whole flower
hops, the wort slowly circulates through this vessel
extracting the essence of the aromatic hops." (Tröegs
Website). The result is Tröegs Brewery's flagship
beer.

Magic
Hat Summer Variety Show
When
12 Is A Magic Number
Based
in South Burlington Vermont, Magic Hat Brewery brings
eccentricity to their company and to their beer. They
pride themselves with mixing flavors and defying descriptions.
So how does one get a handle on these much coveted brews?
Well, why not try their Summer Variety Show, a twelve
beer sample pack of four of their brews, (three bottles
each). For the extra catious, we've made four bottle
sample packs each holding one of each of the Summer
Variety Show beers. People have been asking us to get
beers from this brewery for a while (TEN YEARS!), so
we are pleased to finally offer them. So, without further
ado, Magic Hat Brewery and Market Street Wine Shop present
the Magic Hat Summer Variety Show!
Fat
Angel
A Magic Hat Pale Ale, Fat Angel (like much Magic Hat
fare) is a complex and pleasing mix. A noticeable malt
base gives it some richness, while a blending of hops
throws in a crisp flavor. The result is an altogether
drinkable beer for the summer months.
#9
Not
quite a pale ale, the #9 is everything it claims itself
to be. Dry, crisp, almost fruity, it teases the pallette
when served very cold. "Take this brother, may
it do you well."
Hocus
Pocus
This is Magic Hat's wheat beer. They refer
to it as a "wheat ale" presumably due to its
surprisingly strong malt base. At the same time there's
the lightness from the wheat rounded off by some crisp
hops. Try it and see what flavors you can pull out.
Batch
370
If
there were only one cool thing about Magic Hat (and
certainly there's more than one) it would be their mystery
beer. For this beer, Magic Hat mixes up a batch, throws
it out there, and invites its drinkers to tell them
whether or not they should keep it. Once you get your
hands on Batch 370, you can go to the Magic Hat website
and ... rate the beer: http://www.magichat.net/mysterybeer/
